What's New In Toilet Flush Ratings? Plenty!

Toilet flush ratings become important in your search for a new or replacement toilet. There are two design options that come into play in considering your choices. They are water efficiency or high efficiency toilets (HET) and the standard gravity flow toilets. The best choice will depend on water conservation efforts in your area of the country.

High efficiency toilets actually save water since they can use less than 1.28 gallons of water per flush. There is a perception that the toilet flush rating would be low since there is an attitude that less water equals less power to do a good flushing job. This has not held up in independent testing.  In fact, some cities are offering water customers rebates to buy an approved high efficiency toilet with the WaterSense label issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA. The cost however,is high giving many it a negative toilet flush rating for people who do not live in an area that offers rebates.

An HET toilet with high toilet flush ratings it the American Standard Compact Cadet3 FloWise 2403.128 offered at faucetsdirect.com for $391.25.It has an antibacterial glaze and has a rim ridge height that is ADA compliant.  It comes in five colors and has a five year warranty.  The toilet flush rating is high for efficiency because it only uses 1.28 gallons of water per flush but can fully remove and clean up to 1000 g. of solid waste in consumer tests giving it the top performance toilet flush rating for any toilet. Retailers such as the Home Depot and Amazon also handle this toilet. Kohler also offers a wide selection of higher end HETs.

The standard gravity porcelain toilets have been around for a long time. The toilet in many homes today, it uses gravity to allow the water from the water tank to go into the bowl through the toilet flush valve. They can also come with a pressure assist options which is a good choice in homes where the plumbing is not the greatest. The best performers in the world of toilets still use the basic 1.6 gallons per flush.

A good choice with a high toilet flush rating for a low price is the Toto Drake CST744S that retails for approximately $255.00. It is a two piece unit that doesn’t make it as easy to clean as a one piece option. That being said, it is easy to repair and maintain and works well in houses with low water pressure. It does have a higher water usage than HETs  and the one year warranty isn’t as good as the five year warranties on the more expensive toilets.

The toilets with the toilet flush ratings that you are looking for will vary with the water pressure and water conservation policies in your city.
