Who Else Needs A Wall Hanging Toilet?
Wall hanging toilets are a fixture in many public restrooms throughout the United States. They have been slowly moving into the residential market as they take up a lot less space and can fit in a corner or a small bathroom. While public bathrooms in the United States are usually not fitted with a bidet , they are also not the “squat style toilets “ found in Japanese public restrooms. The toilets in the US normally have a seat and some are even heated.
The basic design of wall hanging toilets allows for the tank of water to be put inside the wall thereby letting just the toilet bowl itself extend into the room. You can find wall hung toilets for sale at Home Depot and at Lowes but they will have to be special ordered.
Many other companies handle wall hanging toilets and there are a variety of manufacturers. From eFaucets.com, the Toto CT418FG-01 Residential Wall Hung Toilet uses 1.6 gallons of water per flush. It features a dual flushing system for low consumption with a choice of .8 gallons per flush or 1.6 gallons per flush. The toilet is finished with a SanaGloss ceramic glaze that helps prevent mold, mildew or bacteria from clinging to the surface which translates into less cleaning time and water consumption. The toilet is used in conjunction with the TOTO in-wall tank system and is ADA compliant. There are several upgrades available: SW24, SW844 and the SW554(Washlet C110, E200 and 5300 models). Toilet seats have to be ordered separately and are available in the following choices: SS154 is the traditional Soft close seat, the SS204 which is the oval soft close seat and the standard SS214, the basic soft close seat. The wall hanging toilet retails for $350.00 but can be purchased for $210.00 with a little bit of searching.
The Grohe 38 749 000 Carrier Rapid SL Flushing System for Wall Hung Toilets, model number GRO 38749000 is a system that can be accessed through the front. This is especially important if the wall with the water tank is used for storage or an office making it hard or inconvenient to access. It comes pre-assembled with a steel frame that is powder coated and has a 3.9 foot installation height. What is nice about this unit is that the bowl rim height can be adjusted from 15 inches to 19 inches. The water tank is insulated to prevent condensation which in turn cuts down on mold and mildew. The water system retails for $459.00 but can be purchased for $259.92. Keep in mind that this is the portion that is contained behind the wall and the actual wall hanging toilet will need to be purchased separately.
